A spokesperson for the United States Customs and Border Protection Office denied the video that went viral where a uniformed man is apparently seen opening the border gate allowing several immigrants to pass.

A couple of weeks ago a video went viral on Twitter where you can see several immigrants entering through the border gate with the apparent help of a member of the United States military, however, the information that was handled about these images turned out to be false.

“Uniformed US soldiers caught on video opening the border gate and allowing immigrants to enter private property, where they are quickly picked up and taken by bus”, is the message with which The video was accompanied, and in a matter of minutes, it was shared by more than 3,000 veces.

USA Today reported that the video, which was filmed on May 15 in Eagle Pass, Texas, actually shows immigrants detained after crossing the border between the United States and Mexico, but everything is taken out of context.

In an interview with the aforementioned outlet, the United States Customs and Border Protection clarified that the immigrants were within the country at the time, as well as in custody, and the soldier on the scene, a member of the Missouri Guard, was assisting federal authorities.

“The individuals in the video had already crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico, were on US soil, and are subject to US immigration laws,” said Dennis Smith, spokesman for the US Customs and Border Protection to the aforementioned medium.

According to Smith, the Department of Homeland Security states that anyone who crosses the border irregularly is subject to the “legal pathways” rule which states that people “are presumed not to be eligible for asylum” unless they were denied asylum to another country through which they traveled or they fail to “certain limited exceptions”.

And I add that “those who do not establish a legal basis to remain in the United States will be expelled.”
