The documentary 'Operation Hope' would be directed by British producer Simon Chinn, Oscar winner for 'Man on Wire' and 'Searching for Sugar Man'.

The Colombian government is working with British producer Simon Chinn to make a documentary about the four indigenous children who survived 40 days alone in the Amazon after a plane crash, President Gustavo Petro said.

According to Petro, there was a first meeting with documentary filmmaker Chinn in which they agreed to make a documentary about the children's journey, and that now comes the process of “talking with the family”, with the indigenous communities and collecting images.

Petro said that one of the focuses of the story is the union of the military and the indigenous people in the search.

The “fundamental story is how the indigenous world and the military meet for a common goal that is life and I think it is a new message,” he told reporters in Paris before attending the closing ceremony of a summit for a new global financial pact.

“Reunited with the two-time Oscar winner in documentary @Simonlchinn and RTVC, they associate to produce the documentary Operación Esperanza”, published Petro in your Twitter account. RTVC is the Colombian public television channel and “Operation Hope” is the name of the rescue operation.

On June 9, a group of soldiers and indigenous people found the brothers Lesly Mucutuy, 13 years old; Soleiny Mucutuy, 9; Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy, 4, and Cristin Neriman Ronoque Mucutuy, 1, who survived for 40 days in the jungle, between the departments of Caquetá and Guaviare.

The children went missing after the aircraft they were traveling on with their mother had an accident on May 1st. The mother of the children, the pilot, and another passenger died in the accident.

In recent days, details have emerged about the methods that the indigenous people who participated in the search would have used to find them and that could be included in the documentary.

Chinn is an Oscar-winning British documentary filmmaker for “Man on Wire” and “Searching for Sugar Man” and is one of the founders of the production company Red Box Films.

The documentary filmmaker welcomed the opportunity, which he considered an honor, and described the story of Colombian children rescued from the jungle as “inspiring.”
