After a devastating car accident in Los Angeles that left her in a coma, Anne Heche was taken off life support on Sunday , her family confirmed, thus declaring her death official.
The actress had been declared brain dead several days ago but was being kept on life support until a suitable recipient for organ donation could be found, according to her wishes.
Heche was seriously injured in a car accident in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles on August 5.
The actress was driving her Mini Cooper at high speeds when she lost control, crashed into a house, knocking down walls and was caught in the middle of the fire.
Heche was hospitalized in critical condition with a severe brain injury and fell into a coma after the accident. Days later, a representative of his family confirmed that he was not expected to survive. On Friday, the family said Heche had been declared brain dead.
The Los Angeles Police Department later said that he had narcotics in his system at the time of the crash . The department said Friday that it was closing the criminal investigation into the crash after she was declared brain dead.
Heche first rose to fame on the soap opera “Another World” from 1987 to 1991 and won a Daytime Emmy for her role. In the 1990s, she became a popular choice for Hollywood, co-starring in such films as “Donnie Brasco,” “Volcano,” and “Return to Paradise.”

“My brother Atlas and I lost our mother. After six days of almost incredible emotional changes , I am left with a deep and speechless sadness,” said the young man.
“May my mom be free of pain and begin to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom… I am grateful for her love, as I am for the support of my dad, Coley, and my step-mom Alexi, who continue to be my support during this time. Rest in peace mom, I love you Homer ”, she sentenced.
