India raised concerns at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday (local time) over the multi-faceted challenges facing Haiti in the wake of natural disasters and political turmoil.

Prateek Mathur, Adviser to India at UNSC said on the current situation in Haiti that as we have seen in the last decade, it has not been easy to overcome the multi-faceted challenges in Haiti. The political and security situation has remained constant over the past four months.

Prateek Mathur further said that the current economic and humanitarian situation in Haiti is quite complex. In this context, we note the recent efforts of the SRSG in facilitating dialogue between the interim government and civil society groups.

He also said that India has been a major contributor to UN peacekeeping operations in Haiti and has also contributed three formed Police Units (FMUs) to the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti.
