In the 85 days to date of the year, at least 13 mass murders are estimated, while the number of mass shootings for this 2023 is forecast to exceed 550 episodes

The United States has faced at least 129 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, meaning more mass shootings than the 85 days to 2023.

While mass shootings do not constitute the majority of incidents of gun violence in the United States, their impact on communities and victims is evident.

Incidents like the mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, continue to bring cities to mourning and have prompted repeated calls for gun reform.

So far, the trend marks a stable line in recent years, the Armed Violence Archive recorded more than 647 mass shootings in 2022 and 690 in 2021. At this time last year, the country had experienced 113 mass shootings.

In Nashville, Tennessee, the latest mass shooting at a school left six dead: three children and three staff members.

About 12 shootings have occurred on school campuses so far this year, leaving at least 10 dead and a dozen injured, according to GVA and local reports.

According to the total calculation of victims of armed violence in the country, 9,875 fatalities are estimated in 2023, where cases of homicide, suicide or unintentional are combined.

Meanwhile, of the 129 mass shootings, at least 13 are classified as mass murders, including this latest case in Nashville, Tennessee.

The deadliest shootings so far this year are in Tate County, Mississippi, where a 52-year-old man killed six people; Michigan State University in East Lansing, where three were killed and five injured; and Half Moon Bay and Monterey Park, both in California, where 18 people died two days apart at the hands of two heavily armed attackers.
