Former Argentine soccer player Maximiliano Rodriguez, better known as “Maxi”, is turning 41 years old.
For many years he was a leading player for the national team of his country, he played as an attacking midfielder and also as a winger.
The club where he announced his retirement was Atlético Newell's Old Boys, who lives in his native Rosario.
He currently plays as an amateur for Hughes FC of the Venadense Soccer League.

He made the lower divisions at Newell's, a club where he also made his debut as a professional in the First Division. This was on November 14, 1999, in a 1-1 draw against Colón de Santa Fe.
There he played three seasons, showing a very high level, which made him sign for Espanyol de Barcelona, in 2002.
His debut in the Spanish league occurred on September 2 of that year, in the 0-2 defeat against Real Madrid.
With the Iberian team he played 37 games, scored 15 goals in his last campaign and scored what was the 2,000th goal in the club's history.
On 05-06 he made his leap to Atlético de Madrid, who paid 5 million euros for him.
He was until 2010 in the mattress box. He was captain from 2007. In 2010 he moved to English soccer, with Liverpool, signed for three and a half years.
He returned to Newell's for 2011-2012, when the club was going through a bad sporting moment. He terminated his contract with Liverpool to help his club not lose the category.
They managed to get the team out of a bad moment and were even champions of the 2013 Final Tournament. They reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores that year.
In 2017 he announced that he was leaving the club due to differences with the managers. There he made the leap to Penarol before ending his career as a player at Newell's, in what would be a third stage.
