With a message that is now part of the promotional event, Jermell Charlo expressed his desire to fight 'Canelo' Alvarez and assured that he could defeat him based on the performance shown by the Mexican against John Ryder.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez shocked the boxing world when he announced his fight against Jermell Charlo when everyone expected that the chosen one would be Jermall. After this fact, they have transcended the twin, who already in the month of May was asking the Mexican as a rival.

In a live broadcast through his Instagram account, Charlo unknowingly manifested and predicted the duel against ‘Canelo’ with a phrase that was even used as a promo at the launch of the event.

“Undisputed vs. undisputed, f***,” said Jermell, who also asserted, based on the Alvarez's last fight against Ryder, which the man from Guadalajara could not win if he showed the same performance.

“Fuck it!” (…) That pe can't beat me with that last performance of shit ** she sentenced. “I'm at 150 (pounds), I'll gain a little weight. Little Charlo will fight anyone. I have never dodged anyone or sold smoke. That can be a big thing in boxing. Tag Eddie Hearn”, a statement he made good on, going from 154 pounds to 168.

I really wanted that fight

A month before his Instagram Live, Charlo was interviewed by Brian Custer on the podcast ‘The Last Stand’ and he declared that the best fight he could fight in his career was against Saul Alvarez. “Jermell Charlo against Canelo (…) can easily happen. I would take that fight easily”.

Why Jermell and not Jermall?

Personal issues may have been the reason Jermall Charlo pulled out of the fight against ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 30 and delegated responsibility to his brother, according to what was related by Chris Mannix, a reporter for Sports Illustrated and DAZN announcer.

Jermall Charlo, Sports Illustrated has been told, continues to deal with personal issues that have made it difficult for him to adequately train for a fight with ‘Canelo’. His brother Jermell, undisputed 154-pound champion, will take his place, who will now face “Canelo”; in September, he wrote on Twitter.

The now new opponent is the current middleweight champion and has just beaten Argentine Brian Castano in May 2022.
