Dominican Teoscar Hernandez joins the Los Angeles Dodgers super team, who are among the favorites for the 2024 season to reach the World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not spared a single second in continuing to make big hires to put together a super team for the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

The new name that comes to the Los Angeles organization is that of the player from the Dominican Republic, outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who joined the team from free agency and signed a one-year, $23.5 million dollar contract.

With this signing the Dodgers get an outfielder with hitting power, right-handed and someone they were trying to add to their pieces since the team's renewal in the offseason .

Hernandez, 31, is an eight-year MLB veteran and one-time All-Star, and has a .261 batting average, a .261 on-base plus slugging percentage, .802 and 159 home runs hit.

The 2023 season was not the best for the Dominican, who was in play with the Seattle Mariners and hit just .258 with an OPS of .741. However, his production was above league average, with Hernández racking up 26 home runs and 93 RBIs last season.

His two best seasons were with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2020 and 2021, when he posted a combined .882 OPS and received two MVP votes times in the American League.

Hernández is not known for being a great defender, but he can contribute in the outfield without a doubt, especially given the fact that he has a great and strong right arm.

12 assists to his name to tie him for third among all outfielders in the 2023 season and his 22 assists in the past two seasons behind only Lane Thonas of the Washington Nationals.

With the Dodgers, whose lineup was already reinforced with the addition of the pitching and hitting star, the Japanese Shohei Ohtani, Hernández adds much more offense to the Los Angeles team, as well as his experience.

Among Hernández's best attributes lies in being able to dominate left-handed pitchers, highlighted by a .887 career OPS against lefties.

Hernández can also handle right-handers (.772 career OPS), which should allowing him to play a more day-to-day role in the team outfield.

The Dodgers' pursuit of Hernández began during the November general managers' meetings, when the Los Angeles team was clear and firm in highlighting that they wanted the Dominican on their team for 2024.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers were busy with their three main moves. They signed Ohtani to a $700 million contract, the highest-paid in Major League Baseball history.

They reached a commercial agreement and a contract extension for Tyler Glasnow to reinforce his pitching rotation, which was a point to touch on no matter what. Then they got another Japanese star, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in the largest pitching contract in the history of the 'Big Show'.

Hernández's arrival is positive for the team, especially due to the fact that he represented a relatively acceptable cost for the team, who adding the salary that the Dominican will receive for one year of play, should take the Dodgers' payroll further from the luxury tax maximum of $297 million dollars.

With the arrival of Teoscar Hernández, this is the hypothetical lineup with which the Dodgers would face the coming season.
