UK Prime minister Rishi Sunak has begun a transformative change applicable from January 2024. These 11 Laws shall change the face of United Kingdom.

As the tenure of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak draws to a close, a flurry of legislative initiatives is set to transform the face of the United Kingdom in 2024. This final year in office promises a host of significant changes, from tobacco sales bans to wage hikes and measures addressing societal concerns. Let's delve into the key laws set to come into force, as well as those under consideration.

Landmark Smoking Regulations:

Prime Minister Sunak is poised to enact a pioneering shift in smoking laws, progressively raising the legal age to purchase tobacco. Starting this year, the age will increase annually by one year. This move aims to eradicate youth smoking by 2040, potentially saving the NHS billions annually.

Minimum Wage Surge:

Effective April 1, a substantial rise in the minimum wage is on the horizon. Workers aged 21 and over will receive a national living wage of £11.44 per hour, up from £10.42. Additionally, individuals aged 18 to 20 will witness an increase to £8.60 an hour.

XL Bully Dog Ban:

A prohibition on XL Bully dogs is slated to commence on December 31. This law will prohibit breeding, sale, exchange, or letting these dogs stray in England and Wales. Mandatory leash and muzzle regulations will also be enforced, aiming to address safety concerns following fatal dog attacks.

Tip Protection for Employees:

Employers will be barred from withholding tips from staff members starting July 1. The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 aims to ensure that service charges are rightfully disbursed among employees.

Visa Law Revisions:

Stricter visa rules are anticipated, potentially limiting social care staff's ability to bring immediate family members and imposing income thresholds for skilled workers. However, this move has garnered criticism for its potential impact on migration and workforce diversity.

Regulations on Vaping:

Plans for stringent vaping laws targeting underage use, marketing strategies, and disposable sales are in the pipeline. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill seeks to impose new restrictions to curb youth vaping.

Clarity on Spiking Laws:

The Criminal Justice Bill is set for enhancement with clearer provisions regarding drink and drug spiking. The aim is to establish unequivocal definitions and legal boundaries around spiking incidents.

Tenant Protection Updates:

The Renters Reform Bill aimed at safeguarding tenants from unjust evictions faces delays, with issues regarding court reforms cited as a stumbling block.

Redundancy Protection for Parental Leave:

Come April, workers on maternity, adoption, or shared parental leave will receive priority for redeployment in the event of redundancies, thanks to the Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Act.

Rwanda Asylum Legislation:

Despite legal challenges, legislation is being pushed to designate Rwanda as a safe destination for asylum seekers, a move embroiled in controversy.

Electric Vehicle Mandate:

Manufacturers will face new mandates requiring a minimum percentage of zero-emission vehicle sales, with the ultimate goal of achieving 100% by 2035.

As these laws come into effect or await approval, they signify a transformative period in the country's legislative face, potentially shaping societal norms and policies for years to come.
